Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has named a popular market in State after his Gombe State counterpart, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, as a mark of honour for his entrepreneurial successes.
The popular Ngalda market, situated on the boundary of Gombe and Yobe States, was reconstructed and formerly commissioned by the Gombe State Governor.
Governor Mai Mala Buni, declared that the market is now to be known as ‘Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya Morden Market Ngalda’, Fika LGA of Yobe State.
The ceremony was the climax of the Commissioning of key projects and groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of Local Council Development Area (LCDA) Secretariats in Gombe State.
Governor Inuwa was accompanied during the commissioning by the Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni and the Senior Special Assistant to the President on political and other matters, Ibrahim Kabir Masari, along with many Government functionaries from Yobe and Gombe States.
Governor Buni who described Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya as a renowned entrepreneur, administrator and politician, expressed optimism that the market and the business community in Ngalda will be blessed with Governor Inuwa’s rich experience and prosperity in economic development.
Commissioning the market, located in Ngalda town, which shares boarder with Nafada LGA of Gombe State, Governor Inuwa Yahaya commended the Yobe State Government for the gigantic project which he said will directly benefit the two communities in Yobe and Gombe States and Nigeria as a whole.
“I will not be wrong if I say this market is for Gombe people, therefore, on behalf of the people of Gombe State, particularly the business community, which I’m proud to be part of, we are saying thank you for the market.
“I want to assure you that the business community will maintain the market. Being from a business oriented family, dating back to my great grandfather, this project is heart touching and I’m very proud that you identified with my constituency directly”, Governor Inuwa Yahaya stated.
Earlier, the Yobe State Commissioner for Commerce, said the reconstruction of the Ngalda market was the fulfilment of Governor Buni’s campaign promises to provide befitting markets across Yobe State.
He explained that the Morden Market which is built on a 1,200 square metres, has 144 open stores, 96 lock-up shops, 32 warehouses, 36 units of slabs, three units of refuse dumps, four public toilets made up of 10 restrooms divided for males and females, an administrative block, a clinic, adequate parking space, a police outpost, a fire service station, two number boreholes, reticulated overhead tanks, underground reservoir, access roads and drainage systems.
The market, one of the most striving in Yobe State which enjoys patronage from across Nigeria with huge turnover that contributes to the economy, also has a perimeter fence and a micro finance bank.
