Cross River government has approved the temporary relocation of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Permanent Orientation Camp from Obubra to the University of Education and Entrepreneurship, Akamkpa.
The relocation is to pave way for comprehensive renovation, remodelling and modernisation of the Obubra camp.
The Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Anthony Owan-Enoh, who disclosed this in a statement in Calabar, said the governor, Prince Bassey Otu approved the move following assessment that the Obubra facility has become overstretched and no longer meets modern standards.
Owan-Enoh said the intervention is aimed at providing a safer, more conducive and befitting environment for corps members deployed to the state.
He clarified that the relocation is temporary, stressing that the orientation camp will return to Obubra upon completion of the renovation works.
According to him, the University of Education and Entrepreneurship, Akamkpa, has been assessed and found suitable to host the orientation exercise, with adequate hostels, water supply, electricity, parade ground and security infrastructure.
The state government appealed to all stakeholders, including the NYSC management, corps members and host communities, to support the initiative, describing it as part of its commitment to youth development and improved national service experience.
