The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Osun State expresses deep disappointment and outright disapproval over the glaring neglect and deliberate sidelining of thousands of qualified applicants for teaching positions advertised by the State Government.

In a statement made available to the media by Dr. Charles Idowu Omidiji, Chairman of the ADC in the state, the party disclosed that many qualified applicants are being denied appointments for political and selfish reasons. These qualified citizens, with practical classroom experience, diligently participated in the state’s recruitment exercise, purchasing scratch cards, attending interviews, and undergoing screenings that have spanned over two years. To date, no appointment letters have been issued, and no credible updates have been provided by the government.

“This silence is not just negligent; it is unjust. It sends a dangerous signal to our educated youth that hard work, merit, and patience are not rewarded in our system,” the statement added.

The ADC noted that, in stark contrast, the Oyo State Government, under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde, has successfully conducted and concluded two separate teachers’ recruitment exercises, with all successful candidates receiving their appointment letters and being duly posted to their places of primary assignment. “This is the kind of progressive governance Osun people deserve,” the party said.

The statement criticized the Osun State Government for politicizing the education sector by deploying members of the Imole Youth Corps to fill teaching positions, many of whom lack the requisite qualifications or training. “Reports have revealed that some of these corps members are retirees, artisans, political loyalists, and unqualified individuals with no pedagogical background. This is not only a betrayal of the public trust but also a direct threat to the quality of education in our public schools,” the party stated.

The ADC emphasized that education is too sensitive and important to be politicized, and a government that sacrifices the future of its children for short-term political appeasement has failed in its most basic responsibility.

The party called on Governor Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke and the Osun State Ministry of Education to immediately correct this injustice by issuing appointment letters to all qualified applicants who successfully completed the recruitment process. “Anything short of this is unacceptable,” the statement read.

In a final appeal to the people of Osun, the ADC urged them to use their conscience and sense of justice while voting in the next election, as they deserve a government that listens, respects due process, and prioritizes people above politics.

“The African Democratic Congress (ADC) remains a reliable and responsive platform for liberation, justice, and people-centered governance. We stand firmly for the rights of the oppressed and for a future where merit is rewarded and public interest is prioritized. Let this be a wake-up call: Osun cannot continue on a path where education is politicized and meritocracy is abandoned. We must rise together to reclaim the dignity of our institutions and the future of our children.”
