Gombe State Police Commissioner, Mr Hayatu Usman, has assured of more collaboration with civil society organisations in the State for greater success in the fight against crime pledging to do wonders if well equipped.
The Police Commissioner made the pledge when the new executives of the Association of Non-Governmental Organisations (ANGO) in the State led by Dr Bachama Yusuf, and other members paid a courtesy visit to the State Command.
The Police and the CSO’s work for humanity as such, there is need for more collaboration so as to create a more serene and peaceful society for all people to dwell in, Mr Hayatu stated.
While appreciating what the CSO’s are doing in Gombe State, he called on them not to relent in doing more by ensuring that the community feels more positive impact from the CSO’s, adding, “you’re more closer to the people”.
He lamented the rising cases of human trafficking but pointed out that unless people speak out, the cases will go on without being stopped urging ANGO to keep sensitising the populace to inform security agencies as proactive measures are the best ways of preventing crimes.
He said the Command has recently been succeeding in arresting cattle rustlers due to the information divulged to the Police by people. He stated however that the Police would have been doing wonderful but for lack of enough working equipment such as vehicles, more personnel among others.
Mr Hayatu commended the people of Gombe State for cooperating with the Command while soliciting for more support stressing that intelligence gathering has proven to be the best form of addressing crime the world over.
Earlier, newly elected Chairman of ANGO, Dr Bachama Yusuf, said the Police plays an important role in the society which is the reason why they had to undertake the courtesy visit and to establish a good working relationship with the Command.
He explained that the familiarisation visit was intended to give ANGO and the Police a better understanding of the workings of both organisations. “It is also to share in the vision of the CP and how we can contribute our quota.
“Police civil relationship is key and we in the civil society remain resolute in improving that. We all have a collective responsibility to ensure a safe and secure society for all citizens”, Bachama added.
