The Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) on Friday hosted Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka.
The Nobel Laureate is in Abuja for the foundation laying ceremony of the National Secretariat of the National Association of Seadogs.

The high-profile event brought together members of the Association, business leaders, and stakeholders within the Federal Capital Territory, underscoring the growing collaboration between civic groups and the private sector.

ACCI President, Emeka Obegolu, described Soyinka’s visit as a significant moment for both the Chamber and the Association. He commended the National Association of Seadogs for its longstanding contributions to society, particularly in the areas of humanitarian services, advocacy, and public enlightenment.

Obegolu highlighted the Association’s sustained involvement in community development initiatives, including medical outreach programmes, charity interventions, and environmental sanitation campaigns.

He noted that these efforts have not only improved community welfare but also deepened public awareness on critical social issues, promoted responsible citizenship, and strengthened national development.

He further called for stronger collaboration between ACCI and the Association, emphasizing the Chamber’s role as the voice of the private sector in Abuja and beyond.

According to him, ACCI’s over 16 sectoral groups provide a robust platform for economic engagement and partnerships that can amplify social impact.

Obegolu was presented with a plaque of appreciation by the Association, acknowledging his leadership and contributions to advancing humanistic ideals and institutional growth within both the Abuja Chapter and the national body.

Also speaking at the event, ACCI’s 1st Deputy President, Adesoji Adesugba, praised the ACCI President for facilitating the acquisition of space for the Secretariat. Adesugba, who is also a member of the Association, used the occasion to present his book titled “Ideas Don’t Die.”

Soyinka described the Secretariat project as a legacy initiative aimed at serving humanity. He addressed misconceptions surrounding the Association, stressing that its track record of impactful interventions speaks louder than public perceptions.

The Nobel Laureate urged members to remain committed to the founding ideals of the organization, while continuing to drive meaningful contributions to society.

He also commended ACCI for its role as a leading institution in economic development and private sector representation in Nigeria.
