Man Stabs Neighbor to Death Over Meat in Adamawa

Releated Post

The Police has arrested 28-year-old Ibrahim Augustine for the alleged fatal stabbing of his 21-year-old neighbor, Haggai Markus, following a violent altercation over roasted meat
According to the Adamawa Police command’s spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroji, the incident unfolded on November 4, 2026, at approximately 8:00 PM in the Mararaban Vimtim community of Mubi North Local Government Area.
Preliminary police findings reveal that the tragedy stemmed from a minor disagreement between the two neighbors over roasted meat taken from a local butcher’s table. The argument quickly escalated when Augustine allegedly pulled out a sharp knife and stabbed Markus directly in the chest.
The victim’s father, Markus Gabo, formally reported the incident to the Mubi North Police Division at about 8:45 PM.
Operatives rushed to the scene, where they found the young man lying lifeless in a pool of blood. The suspected murder weapon was recovered at the scene as an exhibit, and officers promptly apprehended Augustine.
The victim’s body was evacuated to the Federal Medical Centre in Mubi, where attending medical personnel officially confirmed him dead.
SP Nguroji confirmed that the case file and the suspect are being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for thorough investigation and subsequent prosecution.
Adamawa State Commissioner of Police, CP Kabir Hassan, expressed profound condolences to the grieving Markus family and assured the public that justice will be rigorously pursued.
The Commissioner also issued a stern warning to residents, urging them to embrace peaceful dialogue and channel disputes through lawful authorities rather than resorting to fatal violence.
This tragic incident underscores a growing concern over rising interpersonal violence across the country.
It echoes a similar brutal clash in Osun State, where a farmer, Samson Gabriel, was hacked to death with a machete by his neighbor, Lekan Oyebamiji, following a financial disagreement in the Akinlalu community—an event that has left neighboring residents fleeing their homes amid mounting local tension.
