Professor Jonathan Ndagi, the founding Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUT Minna), has died at the age of 96.
The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the university’s Governing Council, Dr. Mohammed K. Santuraki, confirmed the development in a statement released Saturday, stating that the family informed him of Ndagi’s passing early in the morning.
A Legacy of Institution Building
Paying tribute to the pioneer academic, Santuraki described Ndagi as a distinguished scholar and visionary administrator who established the groundwork for FUT Minna’s growth.
“Professor Ndagi leaves behind something far more enduring than longevity: a legacy of service, scholarship and institution building,” Santuraki said. He noted that Ndagi belonged to a generation of pioneer leaders whose sacrifices and dedication continue to shape higher education in Nigeria.
Paying Last Respects
Santuraki recalled visiting the late professor on Nov. 8, 2024, shortly after assuming his role as Chairman of the Governing Council, to pay homage to his lasting legacy.
Expressing his condolences to Ndagi’s family, former colleagues, and the wider university community, Santuraki called for a celebration of a long, impactful life and offered prayers for the repose of his soul.
