Releated Post

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, convene a World Press Conference and National Stakeholders’ Meeting in Abuja as the 2027 General Election enters the 100-day countdown.

The engagement is expected to provide an assessment of the Commission’s level of preparedness and offer stakeholders and the public updates on key aspects of the electoral process ahead of the polls.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Chief Press Secretary and Media Adviser to the INEC Chairman, Adedayo Oketola.

According to the Commission, the event will focus on critical areas of its preparations for the 2027 elections, including the voters’ register, candidate nominations, election logistics and measures being put in place to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process.

The INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, is expected to address the gathering alongside other key stakeholders involved in the conduct and monitoring of the elections.

The meeting comes at a critical stage in the electoral calendar, with only 100 days remaining until the 2027 General Election, and is expected to provide an opportunity for the Commission to communicate its preparations directly to political parties, election stakeholders, the media and the wider public.

INEC said the engagement underscores its commitment to transparency, proactive communication and sustained consultation with stakeholders across the electoral ecosystem.

The Commission is expected to use the platform to strengthen public understanding of the electoral process while addressing issues that could affect the conduct of the elections.

Participants at the national stakeholders’ meeting will include leaders of registered political parties, security agencies operating under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), members of the diplomatic corps and development partners.

Civil society organisations, election observer groups, disability rights advocates, religious and traditional leaders, youth organisations and media executives are also expected to participate in the engagement.

The broad representation is intended to facilitate greater coordination among institutions and groups with roles in the electoral process as the country moves closer to the 2027 polls.

The Commission’s focus on the voters’ register and candidate nominations is also expected to provide stakeholders with an opportunity to receive updates on two key components of the pre-election process, while discussions on logistics will address operational preparations for election day.

INEC is also expected to highlight measures aimed at protecting the credibility and integrity of the electoral process, particularly as preparations move into the final stages.

The World Press Conference and National Stakeholders’ Meeting is scheduled to commence at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre (BAT-ICC), Abuja.

The Commission said attendance at the physical event would be strictly by invitation, while the proceedings will be broadcast live on major national television networks and streamed through INEC’s official social media platforms.

Accredited media representatives and other invited participants are required to present their invitation cards or accreditation badges at designated security checkpoints before gaining access to the venue.
