The Osun State Police Command has arrested 10 suspects in connection with separate incidents involving alleged attempted murder, violent assault, illegal possession of firearms and an invasion of the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree.
The arrests were made in two separate operations carried out by the command following reports of violent crimes in Modakeke, Ife East Local Government Area, and an alleged attack on the polytechnic.
The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday.
In the first operation, four suspects were arrested in Modakeke over alleged conspiracy, attempted murder, assault occasioning harm and unlawful possession of prohibited firearms.
The suspects were identified as Olufemi Olatunji, 39; Ajayi Idowu, 31; Akingbala Oluwakemi, 40; and Adekunle Basirat, 40.
According to the police, operatives arrested the suspects at about 2am on August 9, 2026, following a petition received by the Commissioner of Police.
The command said subsequent searches of the suspects’ residences and business premises led to the recovery of two firearms.
The recovered weapons were identified as a locally manufactured cut-to-size firearm and a pump-action gun.
The police said the locally manufactured firearm was recovered from Basirat’s shop, while the pump-action gun was found at Oluwakemi’s residence.
The command further identified Basirat as the wife of Solomon Akinlabi, popularly known as “Indomine”, while Oluwakemi was described as the wife of Akingbala Akindele, alias “Ostand”.
“The suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting the police with the ongoing investigation,” the command said.
In a separate operation, operatives of the command’s Violent Crime Response Unit arrested six other suspects following reports of an alleged invasion of the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree.
The incident reportedly involved armed hoodlums who allegedly invaded the institution, leaving two students injured.
The six suspects were identified as Ajoba Akorede, 27; Adam Oseni, 27; Ogunrinde Ayomide, 21; Ogunlana Muheez, 26; Ajose Noah, 25; and Adeniyi Damola, 25.
The police said two of the suspects, Akorede and Oseni, confessed during interrogation to being members of the Aye confraternity.
However, the command said it had not yet established whether the two suspects were students of the institution.
The police said investigations into both incidents were ongoing, adding that the suspects would be prosecuted upon the conclusion of investigations.
The command also said efforts were underway to arrest other persons allegedly connected with the Modakeke incident.
The police assured that investigations would be pursued to their logical conclusion and that all suspects found culpable would face prosecution in accordance with the law.
