The Osun State Police Command has summoned Senator Francis Fadahunsi, representing Osun East Senatorial District, over an alleged inflammatory remark in which he was reportedly heard telling supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to “kill” members of the Accord Party during the ongoing governorship campaign.
The invitation followed the circulation of a video on social media showing Fadahunsi speaking in Yoruba at an APC campaign rally in Ilesa on Tuesday, where he allegedly made the statement.
In a letter dated August 11, 2026, and signed by the Commissioner of Police, Elections, Osun State, Samuel Etaifo Erale, the command asked the senator to appear before the police to explain the circumstances surrounding the alleged comment.
Fadahunsi was reportedly directed to appear at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Osogbo, at 11am on Wednesday, August 12.
The police said the invitation was based on information alleging that the senator made statements considered “threatening, inciting and intimidating” during the campaign.
According to the command, the video containing the alleged remarks had been widely circulated across electronic and social media platforms.
In the footage, Fadahunsi was heard speaking in Yoruba and was allegedly urging APC supporters to kill members of the Accord Party if they encountered them during the electoral process.
The remarks have since generated controversy and condemnation, particularly against the backdrop of heightened political tensions ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
However, the senator’s team has rejected the interpretation of the statement, insisting that he was speaking metaphorically and calling on APC supporters to defeat the Accord Party through the ballot.
In a statement titled, “Kill Osun Accord with Votes, Not Violence,” the senator’s team said the remark was intended as a political call for voters to reject the Accord Party at the polls rather than an instruction to engage in violence.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Senator’s statement was purely political and metaphorical,” the statement said.
The team explained that Fadahunsi was urging APC supporters to “overwhelmingly reject the Accord Party at the ballot box through lawful, peaceful and democratic means” in the forthcoming election.
The controversy comes as political activities intensify ahead of Saturday’s governorship poll, with incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke seeking re-election on the platform of the Accord Party.
Adeleke has on several occasions accused the APC of deploying thugs to attack his supporters, allegations the opposition party has denied.
The police have yet to disclose whether the senator’s appearance before the SCID will lead to further action, as the command continues its assessment of the alleged statement and its circumstances.
