The completion of a modern Medical Oxygen Plant in Ikom will boost emergency and critical healthcare services in the area, extending to the entire Central Senatorial district of Cross River.
The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Henry Ayuk, disclosed this, Weekend, after inspecting the facility, admitting that the oxygen plant has been fully completed, installed, and ready for commissioning and immediate use.
He described the project as a significant intervention aimed at strengthening emergency response and improving access to life-saving oxygen therapy across health facilities in the state.
Ayuk added that the facility is expected to significantly ease the growing demand for medical oxygen, particularly within the Central Senatorial District and adjoining communities.
“I have just inspected yet another enduring legacy project of the governor, Prince Bassey Otu, which is the newly completed Medical Oxygen Plant at the Comprehensive Healthcare Centre (CHC), Ikom.
“The oxygen plant was developed in collaboration with The Global Fund and the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA),” the Commissioner stated, even as he lauded both organisations for their sustained support in strengthening the healthcare system in the state.
He explained that the partnership reflects the importance of collaboration in expanding access to quality healthcare services and improving critical care infrastructure across the state.
Ayuk added that the project underscores the commitment of the Otu-led administration to repositioning the health sector through strategic investments targeted at improving emergency and critical care services.
According to him, the oxygen plant would enhance the capacity of hospitals and healthcare centres to respond effectively to medical emergencies requiring oxygen support, while reducing dependence on external oxygen supply sources.
