Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have killed two suspected members of the Lakurawa terrorist group during a military operation in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The troops also recovered weapons and rescued rustled livestock during separate security operations conducted in Sokoto and Katsina states.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 8 Division and Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba.

According to Osoba, the operations were part of ongoing offensives aimed at combating terrorism and banditry across the North-West region.

He explained that troops responded to a distress call following an attempt by suspected Lakurawa terrorists to burn down a Nigerian Immigration Service facility located at Ruwa Wiri village in Tangaza LGA of Sokoto State.

Osoba said the soldiers engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle, during which two terrorists were neutralised, while several others escaped due to the superior firepower of the troops.

“In Sokoto State, troops responded swiftly to a distress call reporting an attempt by Lakurawa Terrorist Group terrorists to set fire to a Nigerian Immigration Service facility at Ruwa Wiri Village in Tangaza Local Government Area.

“The troops made contact with the terrorists, neutralising two terrorists in the ensuing firefight, while others fled due to overwhelming firepower,” he stated.

Following the operation, troops reportedly conducted a sweep of the area and recovered two AK-47 rifles, ammunition, and a motorcycle abandoned by the fleeing suspects.

In another operation carried out in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State, troops on fighting patrol intercepted suspected terrorists moving with rustled livestock at Danya Bakwai settlement.

The military said the criminals fled after coming under attack from the troops, abandoning the stolen animals.

“Troops deployed in Jibia LGA of Katsina State, while on fighting patrol, encountered terrorists moving with herds of rustled livestock at Danya Bakwai Settlement.

“The troops engaged the terrorists, forcing them to abandon 62 rustled livestock,” Osoba added.

The recovered livestock were later returned to their owners during a handover ceremony held at the palace of the Daddara District Head in Jibia.

Osoba reaffirmed the commitment of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to restoring peace and eliminating criminal elements operating across the North-West.

“Operation FANSAN YAMMA remains committed to eradicating terrorism and banditry in the region,” he said, while urging residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible intelligence.

The military has intensified coordinated operations against terrorists, bandits and cattle rustlers across Sokoto, Katsina, Zamfara and Kebbi states amid recurring attacks on communities and security formations in the region.
