The Nigerian Defence Academy has charged newly promoted senior officers to demonstrate greater responsibility, discipline, and leadership in addressing Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.
The charge was given by the Commandant of the Academy, Major General Oluyemi Olatoye, during a decoration ceremony held at the NDA Officers’ Mess and Golf Club, Afaka, Kaduna State.
In a post obtained from the academy’s X handle on Friday, “A total of 10 senior officers were decorated with new ranks, including six Lieutenant Colonels, three Commanders, and one Wing Commander from the Nigerian Army, Navy, and Air Force.
Addressing the newly promoted officers, Olatoye urged them to justify the confidence reposed in them through their elevation, stressing that their new ranks come with higher expectations and more demanding responsibilities.
“You must strive harder to aptly justify the confidence that the services have reposed in you through the promotion,” he said.
He reminded them that their conduct, both on and off duty, must reflect the core values of their respective services and uphold the integrity of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
Olatoye cautioned against any behaviour capable of bringing disrepute to the institution, stressing the importance of discipline, professionalism, and moral uprightness.
“To whom much is given, much is expected,” he added, noting that their elevation places them in positions of greater trust and responsibility.
The commandant also advised the officers to deepen their understanding of leadership, command, and character development, saying these qualities are essential for effective performance in their new roles.
He called on family members and well-wishers to continue supporting the officers through prayers and encouragement, stating that such support is vital to their success in service.
The ceremony, which was described as colourful and joyous, was attended by staff of the Academy, retired senior officers, and families of the decorated officers.
