A journalist with the LEADERSHIP Newspaper Abuja, Sunday Isuwa has gotten a nomination for the Journalist of the year award.
Isuwa’s entry, a 3-part series on cancer treatment at the National Hospital Abuja to the 2022 AMDF Journalist of the Year Award Competition has been selected among the 3 finalists.
Comments from the panel of judges indicates a tough process to arrive at the decision, but it also means that his story is among the best three out of the 19 articles received from six countries in this year’s contest.
A statement issued by AMDF acting Executive Director, Sekyen Dadik, said the winner and runners up will be announced and be presented plaque/certificates on 7th December, 2022 at the annual Africa Conference on Development Journalism (#ACDJ2022),
“The Panel of Judges for the 2022 AMDF Journalist of the Year Award, led by Mr. Joseph Edegbo, Managing Editor of Africa Prime News, has announced 3 finalists for this year’s award.
“They are (alphabetically arranged): Alexander Chinedu Okere of the Punch Newspapers, Janet Ogundepo, also of the Punch Newspapers, and Sunday Isuwa Leadership Newspaper, ” she said.
Chairman of the Panel said the Judges received a total of 19 entries from six countries; Ethiopia, Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria, South Africa, and Zambia.
According to him, the 3 finalists have demonstrated professional skills in their stories by going deep in writing issue-based development stories.
An Honorary Lifetime award for Journalistic Excellence will be presented to distinguish media veteran, Yunusa Aliyu of the Newage Network Limited, Kaduna; for his immeasurable contribution to promotion of development journalism in Nigeria.
The AMDF Journalist of the Year Award was first introduced in 2016 to promote the culture of in-depth development journalism in the African media space.
The Africa Conference on Development Journalism (#ACDJ) is an annual gathering of journalists and other media stakeholders introduced to serve as an avenue for exchange of ideas that will address current and emerging issues facing Development Journalism. It is also meant to create a community of learning that will support the growth of Development Journalism in Africa.
Africa Media Development Foundation (AMDF) is an organisation that provides professional support to media and sustainable development initiatives. It registered with Nigeria’s Corporate Affairs Commission in 2014.
