CVR: NYMSA urges unregistered electorate to register, vote wisely

Releated Post

Noble Youths Mass Support Association (NYMSA), an NGO, has called on unregistered electorates, especially the youths to register in the ongoing online Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in the country.

Mr Godwin Onmonya, the National Coordinator of the group made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kuje on Monday.

Omonya said the importance of the voter card could not be overemphasised in the development of the country, describing it as the only weapon that the electorate can use to choose leaders of their choice.

According to him, not registring and collecting the voters card would affect the electorate in the February 2022 FCT Area Council elections and 2023 general elections.

“By virtue of the Electoral Act and the 1999 constitution, it is the responsibility of the citizens to obtain their permanent voters cards and vote candidates of their choice.

“This call goes to all those who turned 18 years within the period in review and your vote is your right, so, you have to be part of the registration to get the chance to vote.

“The call is imperative because apart from increasing the voting strength in elections, it is the only weapon the electorate can use to choose their leaders,” he said.

He said that the attainment of good election was dependent on full cooperation and support of the electorate to play the political game according to the rules.

Mrs Zainab Gbefwi, the Kuje INEC Electoral Officer told NAN that the online registration will elapse July 19, after which physical exercise will commence for possible corrections and verification before the cards are issued out.

Gbefwi said the electorates should register only through the INEC approved registration portal to avoid any complications and setbacks during the exercise.

NAN reports that the online registration exercise, which began nationwide today June 28, is to enable those who missed the last registration exercise and those who attained the age of 18 years to register. (NAN)
