The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed will be the guest of honour at the public lecture planned by the National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), a parastatal under the ministry.
Also, the Senate Committee Chairman on Culture and Tourism, Senator Owelle Rochas Anayo Okorocha will Chair the occasion while His Royal Highness, Alhaji Sumaila Mohammed, the Emir of Karshi is expected to grace the occasion as Royal Father of the Day.
The guest lecturer is Professor Sule Bello, a Professor of History at the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria.
The theme of the lecture according to a statement signed by Mr.
Caleb Nor, Media Assistant to Executive Secretary, NICO is “Imperial Cultural Illusions, Delusions and Hallucinations; Major Sources of Africa’s Contemporary Development Crises”.
Nor noted that the lecture which has been scheduled for Thursday, 25th March, 2021 is one of its platforms that generate intellectual discourse on culture, which is ained at sensitizing Nigerians on the strategic importance of culture in the promotion and sustenance of good governance..
He said, “NICO has the statutory mandate of effecting a sense of cultural direction for national development and the Public Lecture series is one of its platforms that generate intellectual discourse on culture to sensitize Nigerians on the strategic importance of culture in the promotion and sustenance of good governance; effect a sense of cultural direction in the citizenry; better appreciate the need for Nigerians to embrace our culture, cherish its inherent values and accord it a pride of place in all aspects of our development agenda; and to explore the cultural dimension in every sphere of our national life.”
