24,353 candidates contested 2019 general elections, says INEC

No fewer than 24,353 candidates nominated by 91 political parties contested in the 2019 general polls, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had said.

This was contained in INEC report on the polls by internal and external stakeholdres held from 28th May to 12th July 2019. The report was presented to Electoral Stakeholders by the INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu on Friday.

The contest was for 1,558 constituencies, with a voter population of 84,004,084 spread across 119,973 polling units and 57,023 voting points across the country.

The Federal offices contested for are Presidential, 108 senate seats, 360 House of Representatives seats. Also, 29 states government house was contested for.

Besides, INEC engaged 821,686 adhoc staff to conduct the elections. The Commission also accredited 71,256 domestic and international observers as well as 11,250 domestic and international journalists for the election.

The elections held between 23rd February 2019 and 9th March 2019.
