Ondo Election: Akeredolu, Jegede, Agboola, others sign peace accord

Candidates participating in governorship election in Ondo state have all signed the peace accord ahead of the 10th October 2020 poll.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, said the Peace Accord signing ceremony which was held in Akure, Ondo State capital on Tuesday was to ensure a violence-free election.

Among those who signed the peace accord facilitated by the National Peace Committee are candidates of the All Progressives Congress, Peoples Democratic Party, Zenith Labour Party; Rotimi Akeredolu, Eyitayo Jegede, Agboola Ajayi respectively.

Speaking at the ceremony, INEC chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, said, “Without peace, our deployment plans, new innovations in result management, safety of personnel, security of materials and above all, credibility of elections will be undermined.”

Sultan of Sokoto, Abukabar Saa’d; Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Hassan Kukah; former Bishop of Abuja Diocese, John Onaiyekan, and traditional rulers were among others witnessed the signing.
