The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu, has called for calm and professionalism from the protesters and police personnel respectively as Endsars protest turn violent.

As most schools across the country reopen for learning, the Director General, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu said safety of students, school staff remains a priority to the Federal Government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Ihekweazu said this during the weekly Presidential Task Force Briefing held on October 12th, 2020.
He said government is focusing on the anxiety and concern parents have as schools reopen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He noted that as against when the pandemic started, the health institute is now better informed leading to the development of new guidelines for the safe reopening of schools across the country.
He however advised that all schools should pick up the guidelines across the country and adapt it to their use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"The guidelines include strong recommendations around regular risk assessment, sharing updates on the medical status of every student, a clear communication plan and a sample collection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"We have taken into account the contacts of various schools and how we are going to achieve this in our environments with our own limitations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"There is is evidence to show that young people are less at risk for Covid-19, but low risk does not mean no risk. We have seen this virus transmitted to children even though it is not as intensive as in the case of adolescents and adults.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu, has called for calm and professionalism from the protesters and police personnel respectively as Endsars protest turn violent.
Odumosu, in a statement on Monday 12th October 2020 urged protesters to be peaceful and avoid violent attacks on police personnel or any other security agents.
He also warned them not to harass innocent Lagosians by picketing them to forcefully join the protests; and should avoid blocking access routes or roads for other Nigerians who are as well entitled to their fundamental human rights
The Commissioner of Police was however of the fear that the Endsars protests have been hijacked by some unscrupulous elements, who are fully armed, in Lagos State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There were reports of heavy shooting today on the side of the Police who were seen on a video which has fone viral firing life ammunition at protesters in Surulere area of Lagos, though figures of casualties were still sketchy as at the time of filling this report.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu, has called for calm and professionalism from the protesters and police personnel respectively as Endsars protest turn violent.
Odumosu, in a statement on Monday 12th October 2020 urged protesters to be peaceful and avoid violent attacks on police personnel or any other security agents.
He also warned them not to harass innocent Lagosians by picketing them to forcefully join the protests; and should avoid blocking access routes or roads for other Nigerians who are as well entitled to their fundamental human rights

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu, has called for calm and professionalism from the protesters and police personnel respectively as Endsars protest turn violent.
Odumosu, in a statement on Monday 12th October 2020 urged protesters to be peaceful and avoid violent attacks on police personnel or any other security agents.
He also warned them not to harass innocent Lagosians by picketing them to forcefully join the protests; and should avoid blocking access routes or roads for other Nigerians who are as well entitled to their fundamental human rights
The Commissioner of Police was however of the fear that the Endsars protests have been hijacked by some unscrupulous elements, who are fully armed, in Lagos State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There were reports of heavy shooting today on the side of the Police who were seen on a video which has fone viral firing life ammunition at protesters in Surulere area of Lagos, though figures of casualties were still sketchy as at the time of filling this report.
But the Police claimed that the violence attacks were perpertriated by hoodlums who have hijacked the protest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He states, \"Today, being 12th October, 2020, at about 1pm, some armed protesters laid siege on the Anti Kidnapping Unit Office of the command, broke into the cell and liberated two of the kidnap cases suspects, before they were tactically and professionally repelled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"In the process, Inspr Ekei Joshua with AP No 175493, Inspr Peter Agabi with AP No 251138 and Insp Erinfolami Ayodeji with AP No 229241(now late) attached to the Anti Kidnapping Unit of Lagos State Command, located at Iyun Road, Surulere were shot and critically injured; they have been rushed to the Intensive Care Unit of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"In addition, the protesters fired and killed one Ikechukwu Ilohamauzo, 55 years, a driver of one Toyota Sienna Bus, with Registration Number LSD 296 FX, who got stuck in the traffic caused by the blockage of the road by the violent protesters, in Surulere today. It is petinent to state that the attacked police inspectors and Mr Ikechukwu Ilohamauzu were hit and injured by pellets reasonably fired from pump actions\/locally-made guns. The corpses of the deceased have been deposited in a mortuary for autopsy. \"
He however revealed that four suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident. The National Coordinator, Presidential Task Force (PTF), Dr.Sani Aliyu has said that about 600,000 Nigerians have been tested for Covid-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aliyu said this during the weekly briefing of the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 held on October 12th, 2020.
He indicated that most Nigerians do not know their status.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said that the PTF target is for every state to test at least 1% of its population.
Only the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has achieved this Target with Lagos state fast approaching with about 97% achievement and other states with barely 20-25%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He noted that Covid-19 spreads silently and quickly which is why safety measures must be adhered to by school authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the safety of students, teachers and staff, Dr. Aliyu said \"schools must have detailed communication protocols that include parents, staff, school health teams, school authorities, local\/state officials. They must provide regular updates to parents, staff and relevant authorities as well as communicate the just procedures effectively and clearly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"Schools must also take sufficient measures to understand how Covid-19 can spread, how to mitigate its transmission in line with the official guidelines and when they have a postive case, that need to know how it should be managed.\"<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emphasising on the importance of education as a fundamental human right which must be available to Nigerians, he noted that \"we must take responsibilities to minimize the rate of transmission, protect our young people and their families for schools to operate effectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"It is definitely time for Nigeria to get moving and in this regard, we have to support our students and also protect our schools.\"<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As most schools across the country reopen for learning, the Director General, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu said safety of students, school staff remains a priority to the Federal Government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Ihekweazu said this during the weekly Presidential Task Force Briefing held on October 12th, 2020.
He said government is focusing on the anxiety and concern parents have as schools reopen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He noted that as against when the pandemic started, the health institute is now better informed leading to the development of new guidelines for the safe reopening of schools across the country.
