The European Union may have thrown its weight behind the Nigerian candidate for the World Trade Organization (WTO) Director-General, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, and her Korean counterpart, Yoo Myung-hee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Eight candidates started the race and after the screening five were shortlisted through a selection process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The remaining five candidates to competite for the WTO job are Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala of Nigeria, Yoo Myung-hee of the Republic of Korea, Amina Mohamed of Kenya, Mohammad Maziad Al-Tuwaijri of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and Liam Fox of the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The organisation plans to announce two finalists after October 6 and announce the winner by November 7.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mrs Okonjo-Iweala had earlier gained the support of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In her presentation to the council, if elected, promised to work with members to prioritise delivering the 12th Ministerial Conference MC12 successfully with good outcomes on fisheries, agriculture and other areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Among her plans, she said \"I would also prioritize updating the rulebook unlocking the dispute settlement system, working on transparency and notification, enhancing the work of regular bodies and strengthen the secretariat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Gambia's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Momodou Tangara on Tuesday said if not for Nigeria, his country's judiciary would have collapse.
Tangara who was in Abuja on a thank you visit to the country also revealed that his country has concluded arrangment to honour late Nigerian Military General, Dada who played a pivotal role in the establishment of t country's military.
He said, \" we are delighted to be here today to express our gratitude to the Federal Republic of Nigeria for the pivotal role you are playing in the sub-region and for the tremendous support you have given to the Gambia.
\"I have said that in many fora, that in the Gambia, we are very greatful to Nigeria . At some point if Nigeria was to withdraw from the juficiary, our judiciary would have completely been crippled. And thanks to the support of Nigeria, we have been able to build our judiciary with hometown lawyers and magistrate and that could not have been possible without the support of Nigeria.
\"In very critical moment, you helped us build the most valuable resources in our country and that is our human resources and we are forever grateful for that .
\"We can not also talk about armed forces in the Gambia without mentioning Nigeria. You ha e been the key in helping us set up the armed forces in Nigeria. And today in the Gambia, the late General Abubakar Dada is a household name in the Gambia. At least in the military, everybody knows about him. And that is why during our discussions and in the wisdom of the President who decided to honour him posthumous. I think he deserve it and that is the best way we can say thank you to him and his family to know that their father has left a great legacy not only in Nigeria but in the Gambia. That is what we intend to do in due course.
Late General Dada who is the elder brother of the current Nigeria's Minister of State, Foreign Affairs, Zubairu Dada was credited to have help build the Military capacity of the Gambia when he held forth as the Commander General of the Gambia army, including building the Army Headquarters.
He also commended the logistic support rendered by President Muhammadu Buhari during the Covod-19 lockdown .
\" Apart from just saying thank you for past support, Tangara said the visit was aimed at forging a new way forward.

The government of Gambia has credited Nigeria for strengthening its judicial system.
The Gambia's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Momodou Tangara on Tuesday said if not for Nigeria, his country's judiciary would have collapse.
Tangara who was in Abuja on a thank you visit to the country also revealed that his country has concluded arrangment to honour late Nigerian Military General, Dada who played a pivotal role in the establishment of t country's military.
He said, \" we are delighted to be here today to express our gratitude to the Federal Republic of Nigeria for the pivotal role you are playing in the sub-region and for the tremendous support you have given to the Gambia.
\"I have said that in many fora, that in the Gambia, we are very greatful to Nigeria . At some point if Nigeria was to withdraw from the juficiary, our judiciary would have completely been crippled. And thanks to the support of Nigeria, we have been able to build our judiciary with hometown lawyers and magistrate and that could not have been possible without the support of Nigeria.
\"In very critical moment, you helped us build the most valuable resources in our country and that is our human resources and we are forever grateful for that .
\"We can not also talk about armed forces in the Gambia without mentioning Nigeria. You ha e been the key in helping us set up the armed forces in Nigeria. And today in the Gambia, the late General Abubakar Dada is a household name in the Gambia. At least in the military, everybody knows about him. And that is why during our discussions and in the wisdom of the President who decided to honour him posthumous. I think he deserve it and that is the best way we can say thank you to him and his family to know that their father has left a great legacy not only in Nigeria but in the Gambia. That is what we intend to do in due course.
Late General Dada who is the elder brother of the current Nigeria's Minister of State, Foreign Affairs, Zubairu Dada was credited to have help build the Military capacity of the Gambia when he held forth as the Commander General of the Gambia army, including building the Army Headquarters.
He also commended the logistic support rendered by President Muhammadu Buhari during the Covod-19 lockdown .
\" Apart from just saying thank you for past support, Tangara said the visit was aimed at forging a new way forward.
\"The visit is just to say thank you and to see how best we can chat a way forward in consolidating the gains. We know we can rely on Nigeria and you can also rely on us. And infant to assure you of our commitment to strengthening the relationship\", he added.
Onyeama in his earlier remark , had said the visit is a show of the Gambia's rare commitment to the bilateral relations between our two countries and we thank you really for that.

US President Donald Trump has announced that he is ending negotiations over a Covid-19 relief bill.
Trump in a tweet, however gave a hint that talk will resume after the November poll 2020.
\"Immediately after I win, we will pass a major Stimulus Bill that focuses on hardworking Americans,\" he tweeted one day after leaving hospital.
In his tweet, the president cast blame for the talks' collapse on Mrs Pelosi, saying that she was seeking $2.4tr (\u00a31.8tr) \"to bailout poorly run, high crime, Democrat States\".
He said he counter-offered $1.6tr (\u00a31.2tr) but Mrs Pelosi \"is not negotiating in good faith\".
\"I am rejecting their request, and looking to the future of the Country,\" he wrote.

US President Donald Trump has announced that he is ending negotiations over a Covid-19 relief bill.
Trump in a tweet, however gave a hint that talk will resume after the November poll 2020.
\"Immediately after I win, we will pass a major Stimulus Bill that focuses on hardworking Americans,\" he tweeted one day after leaving hospital.
In his tweet, the president cast blame for the talks' collapse on Mrs Pelosi, saying that she was seeking $2.4tr (\u00a31.8tr) \"to bailout poorly run, high crime, Democrat States\".
He said he counter-offered $1.6tr (\u00a31.2tr) but Mrs Pelosi \"is not negotiating in good faith\".
\"I am rejecting their request, and looking to the future of the Country,\" he wrote.
He added that he had instructed Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to focus efforts on confirming his Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett.

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has lifted sanctions imposed on Mali.
Mali had been suspended from the regional following the military take over of government in August.
However, wit the annoucement of Mali's 25-member Transition Government on Monday, regional bloc ECOWAS lifted wide-ranging sanctions imposed on the country following the 18th August.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Retired Col Bah Ndaw, 70, is President of the 18-month transition government with military junta leader Col Assimi Goita as vice President and former Foreign Minister Moctar Ouane as Prime Minister.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Military officers occupy four key portfolios for National security, defence, National Reconciliation and Regional Administration in the new government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the statement announcing the lifting of sanctions, the Chair of ECOWAS Authority and Ghana's President Nana Akufo-Addo called on the Mali government to comply with other demands by the regional body, including the dissolution of the ruling military Council and release detainees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said the junta has explained in the Transition Charter that the vice president is in charge of defence and security, but would never replace the transition president.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The government of Gambia has credited Nigeria for strengthening its judicial system.
The Gambia's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Momodou Tangara on Tuesday said if not for Nigeria, his country's judiciary would have collapse.
Tangara who was in Abuja on a thank you visit to the country also revealed that his country has concluded arrangment to honour late Nigerian Military General, Dada who played a pivotal role in the establishment of t country's military.
He said, \" we are delighted to be here today to express our gratitude to the Federal Republic of Nigeria for the pivotal role you are playing in the sub-region and for the tremendous support you have given to the Gambia.
\"I have said that in many fora, that in the Gambia, we are very greatful to Nigeria . At some point if Nigeria was to withdraw from the juficiary, our judiciary would have completely been crippled. And thanks to the support of Nigeria, we have been able to build our judiciary with hometown lawyers and magistrate and that could not have been possible without the support of Nigeria.
\"In very critical moment, you helped us build the most valuable resources in our country and that is our human resources and we are forever grateful for that .
\"We can not also talk about armed forces in the Gambia without mentioning Nigeria. You ha e been the key in helping us set up the armed forces in Nigeria. And today in the Gambia, the late General Abubakar Dada is a household name in the Gambia. At least in the military, everybody knows about him. And that is why during our discussions and in the wisdom of the President who decided to honour him posthumous.
