The National Examination Council has rescheduled Paper I Computer Studies Practical\u2019s slated for Monday, October 19, 2020, until November 16, 2020 over the ongoing protest across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Azeez Sani who is the Head of Information and Public Relations Division, NECO, in a statement said that the protest had affected the supply of examination materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The statement read, \u201cThis is to inform the general public and especially candidates that the National Examinations Council (NECO) has been constrained to reschedule the Paper I Computer Studies Practical\u2019s earlier scheduled to take place on Monday 19 October 2020, 10 am to 1 pm. The examination of this paper will now hold on Monday 16 November 2020, 10 am-1 pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u200b\u201dThis unforeseen incident has been caused by the ENDSARS protest that blocked the free movement of transport at the City entrance gate Benin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe NECO delivery truck had left its take-off point well in advance two days earlier to deliver examination materials to some states and has been held up in the blockage since then.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Council wishes to assure all stakeholders and the general public that the affected examination materials have been retrieved intact and are in the custody of NECO\u2019s vault.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the violence that occurred in the early hours of Monday, the Lagos State Government has ordered the closure of public and private schools in the state indefinitely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The state\u2019s Head of Public Affairs, Ministry of Education, Kayode Abayomi made this announcement in a press statement on Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It quoted the Commissioner for Education, Mrs Folasade Adefisayo, as saying that the schools were shut down over \u201ctension generated by the anti-SARS protests.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reports have it that academic activities were affected in some schools in the state on Monday as protests against police brutality and bad governance continue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The statement read in part, \u201cThe Lagos State Government has directed all pupils\/students in public and private schools to stay at home following the tension generated by the anti-SARS protests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cA new date of resumption for all classes will be announced as soon as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adefisayo added that \u201cthe safety of the pupils\/students, parents and all staff working in schools is paramount at this critical period\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She however advised parents to \u201ckeep an eye on their wards and not allow them to be used as willing tools in the hands of those who might want to hijack the protests to unleash mayhem on the society\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Commissioner also encouraged schools to \u201cutilise other means of distance teaching and learning i.e radio, television and online media as they have been doing during and post the recent COVID-19 lockdown\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many students and teachers encountered difficulty in getting to schools in the state on Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Examination Council (WAEC) on Monday announced the release of the results of the 2020 West African Senior Secondary School Examination, (WASSCE).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The West African regional examination body announced that the results of 215, 149 candidates, representing 13.98 per cent of those that sat for the examinations are being withheld for various reasons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Governor Sanwo-Olu announced the curfew via his social media handle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sanwo-Olu said the peaceful protest has slid into a monster that is threatening social lives of Lagosians. The governor lamented that criminal elements are hiding behind the peaceful protest to unleash terror on the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI have watched with shock how what began as a peaceful #EndSARS protest has degenerated into a monster that is threatening the well-being of our society. Lives and limbs have been lost as criminals and miscreants are now hiding under the umbrella of these protests to unleash mayhem on our State.\u201d Sanwo-Olu said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs a government that is alive to its responsibility and has shown a commitment to the movement #ENDSARS, we will not watch and allow anarchy in our dear state.\u201d He said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI, therefore, hereby impose a 24-hour curfew on all parts of the State as from 4 pm today, 20th October 2020. Nobody, except essential service providers and first responders, must be found on the streets.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recall that NEWSPECNG had reported in the last 24 hours how suspected hoodlums have infiltrated the peaceful protest in Lagos, setting police station ablaze and other criminal activities reportedly carried out.

The Ondo State Government has ordered the total shutdown of schools in the state definitely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This order came as a result of the peaceful protests which eventually turned violent in the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ekiti State Government has also ordered the immediate closure of all private and public schools following continued #EndSARS protests across the state. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The decision to close schools was a proactive step to safeguard the lives of pupils and other staff in the schools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
