The Federal Government has thrown its full weight behind the Super Eagles ahead of their highly anticipated Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) semifinal encounter against Morocco, assuring the team of the unwavering support of Nigerians at home and abroad.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, praised the Super Eagles for their impressive run in the tournament and urged them to rise to the occasion as they chase a place in the final.
Idris described the team’s performances so far as “inspiring,” commending their discipline, courage and belief, which he said have once again underscored Nigeria’s status as one of Africa’s most respected footballing nations.
“Match after match, you have shown discipline, courage, and belief, reminding us why the Super Eagles remain one of Africa’s most respected teams,” the minister stated.
“You have been here before. You know what it takes to win at this level.”
The minister recalled Nigeria’s rich AFCON history and past triumphs over formidable opponents, noting that such successes were earned through teamwork, confidence and a resilient fighting spirit qualities he said the current squad has clearly demonstrated throughout the tournament.
Idris said the Super Eagles would be taking to the pitch backed by the hopes and prayers of millions of Nigerians.
“As you step onto the pitch, remember that you are not alone. You carry the hopes of millions of Nigerians who believe in you and draw strength from your performances,” he said.
“Play with the confidence of champions, the unity of brothers, and hunger. Know your history and your worth.”
The government spokesperson urged the players to remain focused, trust one another and give their all from the first whistle to the final moment, stressing the importance of determination and collective effort in a match of such magnitude.
“Win every ball and fight for every chance,” he added. “Never doubt what you can achieve together. You have earned your place at this stage and possess the qualities to take it even further.”
Idris concluded with a patriotic charge, calling on the Super Eagles to play with heart, pride and a sense of national duty as they aim to write another memorable chapter in Nigeria’s football history.
“Play with heart. Play with pride. Play for Nigeria,” he said, while invoking prayers for the team and the nation.
