No fewer thannSixteen members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, Friday jumped ship, defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.
Amaewhule announced the lawmakers’ decision during plenary on Friday, citing what he described as a “clear division” within the PDP as the reason for their defection.
The decision was however not surprising to many political watchers. For many, it was a matter of when it will be done.
The legislators had openly declared their intention since 2023 at the height of the political war in the state.
