The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disclosed that more than 505,906 Nigerians have successfully completed their online pre-registration for the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise within the first five days of its resumption.
INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, made this known on Friday, August 22, 2025, during the official flag-off of nationwide sensitisation activities in Abuja.
He was represented at the event by National Commissioner, Mrs. May Agbamuche-Mbu.
Professor Yakubu described the turnout as encouraging, noting that it reflects Nigerians’ strong commitment to democratic participation.
“As at midnight of Thursday, 22nd August 2025, over 505,906 citizens have pre-registered since the portal opened five days ago. For us, this is a testament that Nigerians believe in our democracy and in the efforts of the Commission to further strengthen the electoral process,” he said.
The CVR, which commenced with online pre-registration on Monday, August 18, 2025, will transition to the physical phase on Monday, August 25, 2025. From that date, citizens who pre-registered online as well as fresh applicants can visit INEC State and Local Government offices nationwide to complete the process, including biometric capture.
INEC also rolled out a nationwide sensitisation campaign.
In Abuja, the Commission staged a colourful roadshow led by its Voter Education and Publicity Department.
The team moved from INEC Headquarters in Maitama through Banex Plaza in Wuse, down to the busy Wuse Market, engaging citizens, sharing flyers, and raising awareness. Similar activities are scheduled to take place across the country.
Professor Yakubu encouraged young Nigerians, first-time voters who have just turned 18, and those wishing to update or transfer their voter records, to participate actively.
“Your Permanent Voter Card (PVC) is key to making your voice heard,” he emphasized, while calling on political parties, civil society groups, the media, and other stakeholders to support the awareness drive.
INEC announced that the CVR exercise will be conducted across 811 registration centres nationwide, including all 774 Local Government offices and State headquarters, between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., Mondays to Fridays.
Through its dedicated portal — www.cvr.inecnigeria.org — citizens can pre-register, check their PVC status, locate registration centres, transfer registration, request replacement of lost or damaged PVCs, and correct personal details.
The Commission further assured that special provisions have been made to cater for persons with disabilities and vulnerable groups, ensuring inclusivity in the process.
Professor Yakubu appealed for collective support from all Nigerians, stressing that voter registration is a shared national duty.
