The Super Falcons of Nigeria Friday walloped Zambia 5-0 in their quarter-final match at the ongoing 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Casablanca, Morocco.
It was sweet revenge for the West Africans, who lost 1-0 to the Copper Queens in the third-place match three years ago in Morocco.
Justine Madugu’s side will now face the winner of the tie between defending champions Banyana Banyana of South Africa, and Senegal in the last four next week Tuesday.
The Super Falcons started on the strong foot and got the curtain raiser through experienced centre-back Osinachi Ohale after just two minutes.
Esther Okoronkwo doubled the advantage with a clinical finish three minutes after the half hour mark.
Nigeria moved beyond their opponent with Chiwendu Ihezuo capitalising on an error from the Zambian defence to score the third goal.
It was Ihezuo’s third goal of the competition, and it put her in contention for the top scorer award.
The Zambians took control of the game after break but the Super Falcons stood firm to held on to their lead.
Tosin Demehin nodded Okoronkwo’ superb cross to make it 4-0 for Nigeria in the 68th minute.
Captain Rasheedat Ajibade set up Folashade Ijamilusi for the fifth goal in stoppage time.
