The Citizens for Equity and National Development has commended President Bola Tinubu for supporting the creation of State Police.
The group equally condemned some Northern groups over their increasing threats on the president over high cost of living.
CEND make its stand known in a communiqué issued at the end of its meeting in Abuja.
It applauded the president’s move to support creation of State police, saying that it remains the only solution to the current security challenges bediviling the country.
The communique was signed by Ogbuefi Chibuzor Onyia – Chairman; Engr. Babajide Onafowora, Deputy Chairman;
Barr. Joseph Achile Abu – Secretary and Jerome Azubuko – Admin Secretary.
The group also applauded the idea of the country returning to a Parliamentary System of Government.
The communique reads: “The Citizens for Equity and National Development (CEND) in our meeting on the State of the nation held on 17th February, 2024 in Abuja, resolved to commend the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for listening to the long cry of the suffering Nigerians by establishing State Police.
“This is one of the long identified solutions to the lingering crisis of insecurity in the Country, along with devolution and decentralization of powers which Mr President has commenced through the proper relocation of Government Offices to where they are best suited to serve the Country better.
“We equally commend those Honourable members of the National Assembly who recently introduced a Bill for Nigeria’s return to Parliamentary System of Government for recognizing what many Nigerians have since acknowledged that the prohibitive cost of running the Presidential System as we presently do, is unsustainable.”
The group equally condemned what it termed increasing threat from some Northern groups over high cost of living.
“We also condemned the increasing threat from some Northern groups to the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the issue of high cost of living while cautioning those threatening Armageddon that Nigeria belongs to all and that there is need for all hands to be on deck for the Country to come out of the woods, knowing that the government of the day has already mapped out strategies to arrest the situation,” it stated.
