Palestinian envoy commends AU for resolution on Gaza crisis

The Palestinian authorities have commended the African Union for adopting a declaration on the situation in Palestine and the Middle East.
This is as they condemned the United States for blocking a United Nations resolutions demanding an immediate ceasefire of Israeli war against the Palestinian people.
Ambassador to Nigeria, Abdullah Shawesh lamented  the dire situation in Gaza following the Israeli October 7 retaliation.
Shawesh in a briefing in Abuja said no fewer than 9,000 Palestinians are held behind bar by the Israeli government since October 7 retaliation.
He said the prisoners are dehumanised and abused.
He therefore called on the International Committee of the Red Cross, ICRC to verify report of inhuman treatment of prisoners by the Israeli authorities.
The envoy who spoke in Abuja on Thursday said Palestinian prisoners were being maltreatment and abused.
He stressed that many of them are in miserable state .
According to him, “More than 9000 Palestinians detainees in the Osraelo prisons have been subjected to unprecedented retaliatory and punitive measures since October 7th.
“In the occupied West Bank, 7170 Palestinian detainees have been held since October 7 up to today, including 215 women, 430 children, 52 journalists, and 3574 administrative detainees.”
He therefore called “On the ICRC to uphold its mandated duties in accordance with international law and visit the Israeli prisons and detention centres to verify the inhumane and miserable situation that the prisoners are subjected to.”
