The meeting between the Federal Government and the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) over the fuel subsidy removal has ended without both parties coming to an agreement.
The meeting started at 4 pm on Wednesday and took place at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The meeting attendees included representatives from the Federal Government such as Dele Alake, spokesperson for President Bola Tinubu, Mele Kyari, Group CEO of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, Godwin Emefiele, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole.
Organised Labour was also present at the meeting, represented by NLC National President Joe Ajaero and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) President Festus Osifo.
The NLC, after a prolonged meeting with the Federal Government, demanded the reversal of fuel price to pre-subsidy removal before resuming negotiations.
Joe Ajaero, the National President of the NLC, criticised the subsidy removal and stressed the need to protect Nigerian workers and offer alternative solutions.
The NLC rejected the latest announcement as they had not discussed any palliative measures for Nigerians with the Federal Government.
The union would consult with its members to determine the next course of action.
Alake asserted that the meeting was successful, and talks would continue with the hope of reaching a reasonable conclusion at the next meeting.
