No doubt the current economic situation has adversely affected lots of people, leading to lose of jobs amongst other things.
However, the security challenge has further compounded the situation, leading to many of the country’s youths seeking refuge in foreign land. This latest trend has seen many vibrant youths leaving the shores of this country to overseas.
Though, this may not be a guarantee for a better life, it is however believed that it will be a far cry to the mirage of problems in the country.
For those who have escaped the banditory, Boko Haram, kidnapping and lack of infrastructure, it is good bye Nigeria.
Consequently, Nigerians on Twitter have begun a ‘Goodbye Nigeria’ trend to comment on the rate at which youths are leaving the country.
As part of the trend, Nigerians who have departed the country shared their pictures at the airport or in a foreign country, with the caption ‘Goodbye Nigeria’.
Other associated words in line with the trend are ‘Welcome to a new dispensation’, ‘VPN deleted’, ‘japa’ etc.
Since the Twitter suspension on June 4, Nigerians have been forced to use VPN in order to access the social platform, even as the Federal Government has promised that Twitter will be back “soon”.
‘Japa’ has also become a slang young Nigerians use to describe the act of leaving Nigeria for another country.
Reacting to the amount of ‘Goodbye Nigeria’ written recently by those leaving the country, tweeps have blamed the government for the increase in relocation out of the country.
A tweep, @agbolutai, said, “A country that has several means of transportation and is spiced with electric cars has no excuse for the madness going on at gas stations. No, it’s not acceptable. Goodbye Nigeria indeed.”
“Everybody just dey japa o.Goodbye Nigeria has never hit this hard! Which way Nigeria in Sunny Okosun voice!”, @oagbama tweeted in Pidgin.
Some other tweeps, however, can’t wait to leave the country as they prayed for their turn to come.
“My turn for Goodbye Nigeria will soon come. I can’t wait to leave this country,” @obikoyaemmanue1 said.
In agreement, @powerful198, also said, “To be honest, it’s also my wish. I’ve already obtained my international passport and am preparing for the next phase.”
@oluwa_win said, “It looks like I’m the only one remaining in this country. Everywhere on my timeline is Goodbye Nigeria and Welcome to New dispensation. God! Where is your face?”
