The Federal Government has so far spent N86 billion out of N2.3 trillion covid-19 fund to improve infrastructure in public tertiary health institutions in the last one year.
The fund, according to the Minister of State, Budget and National Planning, Prince Clem Ikanade Agba was part of the N2.3 trillion initiated to facilitate quick recovery from Covid-19.
Agba spoke on Thursday at the 4th Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference and 58th Association of Radiologists in West Africa, ARAWA in Abuja.
In his remark, Agba said out of the N86billion intervention funds, “there has been the procurement of Personal Protective Equipment, PPE for 52 Federal Medical Centres and Teaching Hospitals, the establishment of 520-bed Intensive Care Units, ICU, 52 Molecular Laboratories with the capacity to carry out a minimum of 150 PCR tests a day and 52 insolation wards with an aggregate 1040 befs and associated patient monitoring equipment and isolation centres at Federal Tertiary Hospitals”.
In supporting the health sector according to Agba, the FG has “removed tariff on health related imports such as machineries and consumables to improve access to drugs and other medical services and as well as developed and executed incentive package for frontline healthcare workers”.
