The people of Osun today went to the poll to elect their governor.
The current governor, Ademola Adeleke is also contesting alongside twelve other candidates.
According to a report, massive turnout of voters was recorded at Polling Unit EC 30 A in Ede North Local Government Area of the State as the governorship election gets underway across the state.
Eligible voters arrived at the polling unit in significant numbers, with long queues forming as voters waited to undergo accreditation and cast their ballots.
The polling unit, located in Ede North, the home local government of incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, is among the locations attracting attention in the keenly contested election.
As of the time of filing this report, voters were seen waiting patiently in orderly queues, while others continued to arrive at the polling unit to participate in the electoral process.
The atmosphere at the polling unit remained calm, with voters focused on completing the accreditation and voting procedures.
The turnout is particularly notable given Ede North’s political significance and the level of voter participation witnessed in the area during previous governorship elections.
Ede North and Ede South recorded significant voter activity during the 2022 Osun governorship election, when long queues were observed at several polling units as residents turned out to exercise their franchise.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) deployed the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) for the accreditation of voters as part of measures to strengthen the integrity and credibility of the electoral process.
At EC 30 A, a substantial number of voters remained on the queue awaiting accreditation and voting, while the steady arrival of additional voters continued to increase the number of people at the polling unit.
The development points to strong voter interest in the election, particularly in an area regarded as politically significant because of its connection to the incumbent governor.
Despite the large turnout, the voting environment remained peaceful at the time of filing the report, with voters waiting for their turn to complete the process.
