It is the determination, resilience, and steady focus of the Executive Chairman of Udu Local Government Area, Olorogun (Hon.) Vincent Ogheneruemu Oyibode, JP FCIA that spurred the opening and clearing of the Udu/Otor-Udu–ECN Road and several other strategic roads across the local government.
Speaking with journalist during the excercise, the chairman said such roads will boost agricultural output and Income in the local government as the roads link farm gates directly to markets. This allows local farmers to transport produce quickly, drastically reducing post-harvest losses and maximizing their income.Improves
According to him it will ensure access to social services also within the Local Government as residents can easily travel to healthcare facilities, schools, and markets as well as allowing government workers, extension agents, and emergency responders to reach rural communities safely.
The visionary chairman is also focusing on generating internal revenue by supporting the smooth operation of small and medium enterprises because these ,good roads help stimulate the local economy. This economic activity expands the local government’s tax and revenue base, creating jobs.
He said in line with the MORE Renewed Hope Agenda, upgrading and maintaining rural infrastructure creates direct employment for local labourers and encourages off-farm business opportunities (e.g., transport services, local trading), as well as safety and security.

Hon Vincent also oversee council workers and others within the local government headquarters in clearing overgrown vegetation, removing obstructions, and opening up major road corridors for motorists and pedestrians.
Areas covered during the exercise included the Ujevwu Junction axis, stretching from the Udu NURTW Branch C Office to Efenaco Lakes and Hotel along Egini Road. Other locations attended to were the Matrix Filling Station, Orhuwhorun Junction, and adjoining streets.
Also speaking with journalists after monitoring the exercise, the Supervisory Councillor for Environment, Hon. Freeborn Shalokpe, said the regular road-opening and environmental sanitation programme reflects the commitment of the council chairman to ensuring a cleaner, safer, and more accessible Udu.
According to him, the initiative has become a routine intervention under the Oyibode-led administration, demonstrating the chairman’s determination to improve infrastructure and enhance the living conditions of residents across the local government.
Shalokpe noted that keeping roads free from encroaching vegetation and other obstructions not only improves vehicular movement but also contributes to public safety, environmental sustainability, and the overall development of the area.
He commended residents for participating in the monthly sanitation exercise and urged them to complement the council’s efforts by maintaining clean surroundings and avoiding indiscriminate dumping of refuse on roads and drainage channels.
The Udu Council has continued to prioritize environmental management and road maintenance as part of its broader agenda to promote sustainable development and improve the quality of life for the people of Udu Local Government Area.
