Operatives of the Abia State Police Command have rescued 10 stolen children, recovered 15 firearms and 30 stolen vehicles, and arrested 109 suspects during a comprehensive security operation across the state.
Commissioner of Police, CP Wilfred Afolabi, disclosed the command’s operational scorecard on Friday, revealing that the arrests—comprising 89 males and 20 females—were made between September 11 and November 6, 2026, across 211 distinct criminal cases.
Among the major breakthroughs was the arrest of key suspects connected to the October 17 attack on the Uratta Divisional Police Headquarters. According to Afolabi, one of the main suspects confessed to leading the gang that carried out the assault.
The command also achieved significant successes against child trafficking networks. All 10 rescued children have been safely reunited with their families. Among those recovered were seven-year-old Chiamaka Chikeze and nine-month-old Goodluck Chikeze, who were stolen on October 11. Two suspects, including a 38-year-old, have been charged to court in connection with the abduction.
In other tactical operations:
• Arms Recovery in Ubakala: Anti-Kidnapping Unit operatives raided Ubakala in Umuahia South LGA on October 25, arresting a suspect identified as Osita alongside an alleged illegal ammunition supplier. Two locally fabricated guns and 20 cartridges were seized.
• Vehicle Theft Ring Smashed: Police neutralized a five-man car theft syndicate, recovering a stolen Toyota Corolla with registration number ROU 9338J.
• Campus Security Sweep: On October 31, police arrested two suspected Black Axe confraternity members, aged 27 and 25, who had been robbing Abia State University (ABSU) students of mobile phones and valuables at gunpoint in Uturu.
CP Afolabi assured residents that intelligence-driven operations will be sustained across all local government areas to apprehend fleeing gang members and maintain law and order.
