Gombe State Government has appeoved the release of the sum of ₦46ml counterpart fund to support the forthcoming November and December immunisation rounds.
The funds will also support maternal, newborn and child health interventions in the State, according to the Executive Secretary, Gombe State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Abdulrahman Shuaibu.
He disclosed this on Thursday while describing the intervention as an important contribution towards strengthening healthcare delivery and protecting vulnerable populations.
Dr Abdulrahman stated this during 2026 Third Quarter Review Meeting of the Gombe State Taskforce on Primary Healthcare, held in the office of the State Deputy Governor, Manasseh Daniel Jatau.
He also disclosed that Gombe LGA had been prioritised for the exercise, targeting over 95 thousand eligible children across 278 settlements and 11 wards.
The State Deputy Governor, and Chairman of the State Taskforce on Primary Health Care (PHC), Manassah Daniel Jatau (Ph.D), called on Local Government Chairmen, Healthcare Administrators and other stakeholders to strengthen institutional accountability, improve service delivery and adopt a more aggressive, evidence-based approach to combating malaria and other preventable diseases.
He stressed the need for continuous performance assessment, constructive criticism and practical interventions to address gaps in grassroots healthcare delivery.
The Deputy Governor however, expressed concern over the generally low scores recorded in the Local Government Primary Healthcare Leadership Challenge and described the overall performance as unsatisfactory.
He urged the stakeholders to embrace honest self-assessment, acknowledge shortcomings and take concrete steps towards improvement.
Also speaking, the State Commissioner for Health, Professor Danladi Adamu Bojude, appreciated participants for their attendance, describing their presence as a demonstration of commitment to improving healthcare delivery to the people of the State.
He attributed Gombe State’s outstanding performance in the health sector at the national level to the commitment and support of the Deputy Governor.
