The Jigawa State Hisbah Board has conducted a comprehensive first aid and emergency response training for its personnel to prepare them for critical incidents during field operations.
The capacity-building session took place on Tuesday in Gumel, Gumel Local Government Area, as part of the agency’s monthly lecture series focused on enhancing professionalism among its officers.
Briefing journalists after the session, the Public Relations Officer of the Jigawa State Hisbah Board, Dauda Hadejia, explained that equipping personnel with basic medical response skills became necessary because Hisbah officers are frequently the first responders at accident scenes and emergency situations.
”The lecture presented today focused on First Aid. We taught Hisbah personnel how to give emergency aid to someone who sustains an injury or collapses at work or on the road before taking them to the hospital,” Hadejia said.
He listed key training modules to include:
Techniques to stop severe bleeding and manage fractures
First aid for fainting, choking, and epileptic seizures
Emergency care for snake and insect bite victims
Assistance for women in labour
Reacting to the initiative, Hisbah operative Sani Umar noted that the session provided practical knowledge that would improve daily operations.
”What we learned today is very important. Before, if we saw someone bleeding, we would only rush him to the hospital, but now we know how to stop the bleeding first,” Umar said, adding that the skills gave him greater confidence at public gatherings and on the road.
Another participant, Aminu Bello, commended the Gumel Hisbah Command for organizing the event and urged the state headquarters to extend the training across all 27 local government areas of Jigawa State.
