An Oyo State-based cleric, Joel Olasunkanmi, has shared a cautionary recount of how a five-year pursuit of illicit wealth through alleged ritual practices ended in a tragic road accident and the amputation of his leg.
In a recent interview with BBC Yoruba, Olasunkanmi detailed his descent into get-rich-quick schemes, explaining that his desire for material wealth and worldly comforts led him into a relationship with a local ritualist three decades ago.
According to the pastor, the practitioner instructed him to carry out specific acts involving a young woman he loved, which included using a white handkerchief to collect fluids from her private parts after intimate relations for ritual purposes.
Olasunkanmi acknowledged complying with the directives, which he said led to a sudden windfall of unexplained riches.
“I did become rich. I did not know how it happened. But I did become rich,” Olasunkanmi stated. However, he noted that the wealth came with strict spiritual covenants: “I was told I could not buy a car or house from it.”
’God Was Angry’
Despite the restrictions, Olasunkanmi attempted to circumvent the rules by providing funds to an associate to purchase a vehicle on his behalf.
That decision culminated in a life-altering highway crash on May 26, 2001, involving the very vehicle he had secretly financed.
“Thirty years ago, I took some steps that made God angry. It was while I was searching for vain and worldly things that I became disabled,” he recalled. “At the end of the day, the car that hit me was indirectly mine because I was the one who bought it for him. At the end of the day, my leg was amputated.”
Reflecting on his ordeal and decades of recovery, Olasunkanmi urged young Nigerians to resist the temptation of ritual wealth and get-rich-quick schemes, advising them to exercise patience and pursue legitimate paths to success.
