An 18-year-old housewife, Fatima Dalha, is in police custody after allegedly stabbing her 30-year-old husband in the stomach during a heated domestic dispute in the Dass Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
The incident occurred around 6:00 a.m. on Sunday in the Lirr Bajar community following an argument over money, clothes, and a mobile phone that the suspect claimed belonged to her.
According to the Bauchi State Police Command, the verbal altercation escalated into a physical fight, during which Dalha allegedly stabbed her husband with a kitchen knife.
Mob Attack Averted
Police operatives from the Dass Division arrived at the scene shortly after the incident and rescued the suspect from an angry mob that had gathered and attempted to lynch her.
Officers recovered the knife used in the attack and rushed the victim to a nearby hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment for severe abdominal injuries.
The command confirmed that the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Bauchi for thorough investigation and potential prosecution.
Police Warn Against Domestic Violence
Reacting to the violent altercations, Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, voiced deep concern over the rising trend of domestic violence among young couples.
In a statement released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, the Commissioner cautioned that acting out of anger leads to tragic outcomes and permanent harm.
”Couples experiencing disputes should seek the intervention of family members, community elders, and appropriate legal channels rather than resorting to self-help or violence,” CP Aliyu advised.
