The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Cross River Council, has won double awards for its support in the fight against breast cancer.
The awards were presented by the Pink Africa Foundation in partnership with the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) during a breast cancer awareness rally in Calabar, Saturday.
The NUJ received the Black Opal Award as Most Resourceful Organisation, for its contributions of expertise, volunteers and creative support to breast cancer advocacy.
It also clinched the Titanium Award as Most Engaging Organisation, for inspiring participation and keeping communities connected to the campaign against the disease.
- Reacting to the honours, Chairman of the NUJ in the state, Comrade Archibong Bassey, described the recognition as exciting and a testament to selfless service.

“This is so exciting. I am so honoured that in my tenure, NUJ brought two awards in one day,” Bassey said.
“Let us keep our candle burning in our secret little corners because you don’t know who is watching,” she added, noting that the Council’s quiet efforts were being noticed and appreciated.
Bassey thanked the organisers for finding the union worthy and pledged sustained partnership in cancer awareness campaigns.
