Nigeria — Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum has commissioned a state-of-the-art 400-bed teaching hospital at Kashim Ibrahim University, alongside the new Yerwa Practice Mega School in Maiduguri, marking another major milestone in the state’s post-insurgency recovery.
Unveiled on Friday, the landmark infrastructure projects are designed to expand access to specialized healthcare and raise basic and secondary educational standards across the state capital.
”It is with great joy that I stand before you today on this historic commissioning ceremony,” Governor Zulum said. “The present administration has deliberately prioritised the health sector in order to provide critical infrastructure across the length and breadth of the state.”
World-Class Medical Equipment and Facilities
The newly opened 400-bed Kashim Ibrahim University Teaching Hospital houses 13 specialist departments, including diagnostics, surgery, emergency care, pediatrics, internal medicine, and physiotherapy.
To support high-level clinical care and medical training, the state government equipped the facility with advanced diagnostic technologies, featuring:
Advanced Imaging: A 1.5-Tesla Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scanner and a 160-slice Computed Tomography (CT) scanner.
Radiology & Diagnostics: Three conventional X-ray machines, two mobile X-ray units, three 4D ultrasound machines, a fluoroscopy system, and a digital mammography machine.
Zulum assured residents that qualified healthcare professionals have already been recruited to staff the hospital, urging management to maintain strict discipline, efficiency, and medical ethics.
Vice President Shettima Hails Borno’s Resurgence
Also speaking at the unveiling, Vice President Kashim Shettima commended the Borno State Government for delivering projects whose benefits will endure for generations.
Describing the hospital and schools as symbols of the state’s triumph over past security challenges, Shettima conveyed President Bola Tinubu’s congratulations to the government and people of Borno State.
”The ultra-modern Kashim Ibrahim teaching hospital and the schools in Maiduguri and across the state are evidence that Borno is recovering,” Shettima stated. “A teaching hospital will bring specialised care closer to our community… Also, the knowledge that will be acquired here will strengthen healthcare for generations to come.”
