A Senior Manager in Regulatory Services at the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Mrs. Yetunde Adeyemo, has called for the effective harmonisation of Bank Verification Numbers (BVN) and Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) registration data to improve public service delivery.
Speaking during a question-and-answer session at the Finance and Business Online Publishers (FiBOP) Association Conference in Lagos, Adeyemo observed that while public and private agencies have collected vast amounts of personal data, integrating these records for national use remains a key challenge.
“The challenge goes beyond data collection,” Adeyemo said. “It is about ensuring that the information gathered across different platforms can be harmonised and put to effective use by relevant institutions.”
She emphasized the need for greater accountability across government agencies and among individuals to ensure that existing national data resources generate measurable value for the country.
“Let’s start by being accountable, holding ourselves responsible, and using what we have to get the results we need,” she urged.
Adeyemo also called for multi-stakeholder collaboration—involving government ministries, financial institutions, regulatory bodies, and the media—to raise public awareness about how seamless data integration can enhance governance and daily life for ordinary Nigerians.
