The Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Chief Albert Korubo Horsfall, a former Director-General of the State Security Service (SSS), describing him as a patriot, elder statesman and distinguished son of Rivers State whose contributions to Nigeria’s security architecture would remain a lasting legacy.
Governor Fubara, in a condolence message issued on Sunday, September 13, 2026, said the news of Horsfall’s death was received with “deep sorrow,” noting that the former security chief devoted his life to the service of Nigeria and the advancement of national security and stability.
The governor described Horsfall as a disciplined and intelligent public servant who demonstrated quiet strength, professionalism and integrity throughout his career.
According to Fubara, Horsfall’s tenure as Director-General of the SSS was marked by dedication to duty and commitment to the security and stability of the country, adding that his contributions had established a benchmark for those who subsequently served in the nation’s security sector.
“Chief Horsfall was a patriot, a disciplinarian, and an embodiment of quiet strength and intelligence. As DG SSS, he served Nigeria with utmost dedication, professionalism, and integrity,” the governor said.
He added that Horsfall’s contributions to national security would continue to be remembered, particularly by members of the security community and Nigerians who benefited from his years of service.
Fubara said Horsfall occupied an important place in the affairs of Rivers State, describing him as an elder statesman, mentor and an ambassador of the values associated with the state.
“To Rivers State, he was more than a former DG. He was an elder statesman, a mentor to many, and a proud ambassador of our values of service, honor, and excellence,” he said.
The governor said the death had deprived the state and the country of a patriot and bridge-builder whose life was characterised by integrity and service to humanity.
He noted that Horsfall’s passing represented a significant loss not only to his immediate family but also to Rivers State, the Nigerian security community and the wider country.
Fubara extended the condolences of the Rivers State Government and its people to the deceased’s immediate family, the Horsfall family of Buguma, members of the security community and all Nigerians mourning his death.
The governor also prayed for divine comfort for the family, asking Almighty God to grant the deceased eternal rest and give his loved ones the strength to cope with the loss.
“We pray that the Almighty God grants his soul eternal rest and grants the family the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,” Fubara said.
He further expressed hope that the former SSS Director-General’s legacy of patriotism, professionalism and public service would continue to inspire future generations.
“May his legacy of service and patriotism continue to inspire us,” the governor added.
