A 54-year-old Nigeria Customs Service officer, Prince Etteng Ise, died on Monday, September 7, in a lone road accident along the Ikom–Calabar Highway.

The Cross River Police Command said the crash occurred at about 2:56 p.m. near Alesi Village in Ikom local government area.

According to the police, the victim, who was serving at the Mfum Border in Etung local government area, lost control of his vehicle while trying to avoid a pothole. The vehicle, the report added, veered off the road, ran into the bush and hit a tree.

He was rushed to Holy Family Hospital, Ikom, where he was confirmed dead by a doctor and his remains deposited in the hospital mortuary.

The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Akata, said the Command commiserates with the deceased’s family, colleagues and the Nigeria Customs Service.

Akata urged motorists to exercise caution, avoid excessive speed and remain vigilant while driving, especially on bad portions of the road.
