The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, PhD, GCON, on Saturday led a high-powered delegation of lawmakers to Gombe State to attend the funeral prayer of the late Hon. Yaya Bauchi Tongo, who passed away on Friday.
The funeral prayer took place at Tongo Primary School in Funakaye Local Government Area and was led by the Chief Imam of Funakaye, Malam Abubakar Shahra-Mansur Bajoga. Family members, political associates, community leaders, and well-wishers gathered to pay their final respects to the departed lawmaker.
Following the burial rites, Speaker Abbas and members of the delegation visited the family of the deceased to convey their condolences and offer prayers for the peaceful repose of his soul. The Speaker described the late Hon. Tongo as a dedicated parliamentarian whose service to his constituents and the nation was marked by commitment, humility, and patriotism.
The House delegation included principal officers and committee chairmen, among them the Chief Whip, Hon. Usman Bello Kumo; Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations, Hon. Abubakar Kabir Bichi; Minority Whip, Hon. Mansur Manu Soro; and several other lawmakers from across the country.
Until his passing, Hon. Yaya Bauchi Tongo represented the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives and served as Chairman of the House Parliamentary Friendship Group with the United Arab Emirates. He was widely respected for his dedication to legislative duties and his unwavering commitment to the development of his constituency.
In a condolence message, Speaker Abbas noted that Nigeria and the House of Representatives had lost a patriotic public servant whose contributions to nation-building would be remembered for years to come.
May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings, grant him Aljannatul Firdaus, and give his family, constituents, and colleagues the strength to bear this great loss. Ameen.
