The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the resumption of the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
The resumption is scheduled to commence on May 11, 2026, and conclude on July 10, 2026.
According to INEC, it is for the third and final phase.
In a press statement issued on Tuesday, the Commission said the final phase follows a temporary suspension of the second phase on April 17, 2026, which was necessary to enable the clean-up of the voter register after its publication for claims and objections.
The exercise forms part of INEC’s broader efforts to ensure the integrity and credibility of Nigeria’s electoral database ahead of future elections.
INEC urged all eligible Nigerians particularly those who have recently turned 18 or were unable to register during earlier phases to take advantage of the window to enroll.
The Commission also extended the opportunity to already registered voters seeking to transfer their registration, replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), or correct errors in their personal data.
the Commission directed citizens to its dedicated online registration portal, while also maintaining physical registration points at its State and Local Government Area offices nationwide.
This hybrid approach, INEC noted, is aimed at improving accessibility and reducing congestion at registration centres.
INEC disclosed that the updated Register of Voters will be displayed for public scrutiny between July 23 and July 29, 2026.
During this period, Nigerians will have the opportunity to file claims and objections, a mechanism designed to enhance transparency and allow citizens to contribute to the accuracy of the voter roll.
The Commission reassured the public that all logistical and operational arrangements have been finalized to ensure a seamless exercise across the country.
It emphasized that active citizen participation in the CVR process is critical to strengthening democratic governance and electoral credibility.
INEC’s Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, reiterated the Commission’s commitment to delivering a credible and inclusive voter registration process, calling on Nigerians to fulfill their civic responsibility by registering and verifying their details within the stipulated timeframe.
