The Labour Party has reiterated that it does not currently operate any social media accounts, warning the public against fraudulent platforms falsely claiming to represent the party.
In a statement issued on April 19, 2026, the party reaffirmed its earlier position announced in February, stressing that its communication channels remain strictly limited to official press releases from the Office of the Interim National Chairman. It emphasized that this stance remains unchanged for now.
The party’s leadership raised fresh concerns over a fake account on X (formerly Twitter) operating under the name “LABOUR PARTY (LP) NIG” with the handle @LabourpartyNGR_. According to the statement, the account is being used to circulate misleading information under the guise of official communication.
Investigations by the party revealed that the account had previously been disowned in its February 9 disclaimer. However, its operators allegedly rebranded the account name and handle to evade detection and continue deceiving unsuspecting members of the public.
For clarity, the party identified its only recognized social media platforms as the Facebook page “Labour Party-Nig,” with about 12,000 followers, and the X handle “LabourPartyNG,” with approximately 837,000 followers. Both accounts, it noted, are currently inactive.
The party disclosed that it has formally petitioned the Nigeria Police Force to assist in recovering control of its official X account, which it claims is presently under the control of former party leadership. It added that individuals, including Julius Abure and Umar Farouk, are cooperating with the Deputy Inspector General of Police at the Force Intelligence Department as part of ongoing investigations.
The party further stated that upon the conclusion of the probe and successful recovery of the accounts, the public would be duly informed.
Reiterating its position, the Labour Party urged Nigerians to disregard all information emanating from @LabourpartyNGR_ as well as any content currently circulating via the “LabourPartyNG” account.
It specifically debunked a recent post alleging that the party was anticipating the return of Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, describing the claim as entirely false and unauthorized.
