Commuters on Airport Road experienced severe delays this morning as heavy traffic built up from Federal Housing Estate through to City Gate.
The heavy traffic was triggered primarily by ongoing road diversions and a barricade at Dantata Bridge.
Construction and maintenance work on major sections of Airport Road has forced traffic onto alternative routes. These detours have reduced the number of available lanes, creating bottlenecks that slowed the flow of vehicles.
The Monday morning congestion began in the early hours and quickly intensified, causing long queues of vehicles stretching for several kilometers. Motorists and commuters were caught in slow-moving traffic for over two hours during the peak rush period.
Commuters described the situation as chaotic and frustrating, with many reporting that the traffic extended well into typically free-flowing areas. Some drivers noted that what normally is a 20-minute trip took over two hours this morning.
“We are stuck and barely moving. Drivers are trying to find alternate routes, but there’s simply too much traffic.”
