The Gombe State Independent Electoral Commission (GOSIEC) has sought technical collaboration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the conduct of the state’s local government elections scheduled for April 2026.

A delegation from GOSIEC, led by Dr. Abubakar Abdullahi, Permanent Commissioner for Planning, Research and Statistics, paid a courtesy visit to the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr. Sa’ad Umar Idris, at the INEC State Office, Gombe.

Dr. Abdullahi, who represented the GOSIEC Chairman, commended INEC for its achievements over the past decade, particularly the deployment of technology in elections, which he described as transformative for Nigeria’s democratic process.

He also presented the timetable and schedule of activities for the forthcoming local government elections to the INEC REC and expressed optimism that INEC’s expertise would strengthen GOSIEC’s preparations.

Responding, Dr. Idris reaffirmed INEC’s readiness to provide technical support and training for GOSIEC officials.

He emphasized the importance of capacity building in ensuring credible, transparent, and peaceful elections at all levels.

The REC further briefed the delegation on the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in Gombe State, highlighting its importance in updating the voter register and ensuring that eligible citizens are enfranchised ahead of both state and national elections.

The visit underscored the growing collaboration between federal and state electoral bodies in strengthening Nigeria’s electoral process, with both sides expressing commitment to deepening democratic governance through credible elections.
