Sierra Leonean president, Bio elected New ECOWAS chairman, as President Tinubu’s tenure ends

President Julius Maada Julius Bio of Sierra Leone on Sunday succeeded President Bola Tinubu as the new chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Authority of Heads of State and Government.

He was elected at the 67th Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), held at the Banquet Hall of the State House, Abuja.
This was made known in a post on X, formerly Twitter, on Sunday by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
President Tinubu chaired the regional economic bloc for the past two years. He was first elected July 9 2023 in Guinea Bissau and got re-elected on July 7 2024 in Abuja.
