The Cross River State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Friday, paid a condolence visit to the family of late Etubom Bassey Ekpo Bassey.

Bassey was a veteran journalist who led the state council of NUJ between 1978 and 1982.

Speaking during the visit, Chairman, NUJ, Cross River Council, Comrade Archibong Bassey, commiserated with the family, admitting that the deceased was a pillar of journalism in the state before taking a bow from mother earth.

She remarked that when the union unveiled the hall of fame in the Council Secretariat recently, Etubom Bassey Ekpo Bassey was included as one of those who ensured that the council remains a force to reckon with, in the state.

Her words: “When Etubom Bassey Ekpo Bassey was the chairman of council, he introduced innovations that promoted the ideals of the union.

“The union is still standing tall today because the leaders that came after him followed through and did not allow his legacies die,” the NUJ Chairman said.

She assured that the council would continue to assist the family when needs arise.

Responding on behalf of the family, the deceased daughter, Ekanem Ekpo Bassey, lauded the union for the visit, hinting that their father was a thorough bred Journalist who was still writing even during his last days on earth.

Applauding the union for immortalising him, she also appealed that the Council should create reports on the life and times of the deceased to furnish those who didn’t meet him, while availing them with his feats in the profession.
