FUK host first Northeast Regional Accounting Conference

The Federal University of Kashere, Gombe State, in collaboration with the Office of the Accountant General, Gombe State, has hosted the first ever Northeast Regional Accounting Conference.

Theme of the Conference, “Public finance management reforms and and it’s implications for the integrity of public sector accountants”, was held at the Entrepreneurship and service learning auditorium, FUK, wednesday 22 May, 2024.

The Conference brought together critical stakeholders in the accounting profession to brainstorm on public finance management reforms and it’s implications for the integrity of public sector accountants.

Declaring the Conference open, the Vice-chancellor, Federal University of Kashere (FUK), Professor Umaru A Pate, described the conference as timely following the experience of a global recession.

Represented by the Deputy Vice-chancellor (Academics), Professor Santaya Larit Kela, prayed issues of public accounts will be addressed for the benefit of members.

In his keynote address, the Accountant General of Gombe State, Dr. Aminu Yuguda, who was represented by Mohammed Kulani, explained that his office was moved into cosponsoring the conference because of the desire to see that theory is blended with with practicals in the accounting profession.

He commended FUK for the innovation and called on stakeholders to come together in proffering solutions to challenges facing the accounting profession.

He also expressed confidence in the ability of the lead paper presenter, Professor Kabiru Isa Dandago to deliver in his presentation on issues of national interest.

President of the Institute of Chattered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Dr. Innocent Okoasa, who was represented by Professor Ijeoma Anaso, expressed ICAN’s commitment to transparency in accounting profession through accountability index.

She expressed hope that the conference will be relevant in addressing challenges peculiar to the Northeast region.

In his paper presentation, Professor Ahmed Modu Kumshe, took time and spoke on the need to put things in place to ensure efficient public finance devoid of corruption.

The Conference which is expected to be held annually, had in attendance Bursars from some sister institutions, Auditors, accountants and students who were engaged in an intensive discussion on the paper presented.
